A lavish wedding can become a reason for the destruction of a young family, warned famous psychotherapist Joe Cocker. In a conversation with Metro publication, the specialist revealed an unexpected cause of divorces occurring in the first year after marriage.

Cocker emphasized that the danger is not in the celebration or ceremony itself, but in the excessively scrupulous preparation for these events. According to the expert, when future spouses immerse themselves in detailed planning of every aspect of the wedding, they miss what's truly important - discussing principles of living together and defining personal boundaries.

The psychotherapist noted that such an approach often leads to deep disappointment of newlyweds in family life. The reality of living together turns out to be far from the idealized picture they created in their imagination.

Joe Cocker also drew attention to the increased risk of breakup in the first year of marriage for couples belonging to different national cultures. Among other common causes of serious conflicts and subsequent divorces, the specialist highlighted problems with the distribution of household duties, difficulties in the intimate sphere, and the inability of spouses to build constructive dialogue.
