The dollar exchange rate in Iran has hit a new all-time high

Another historic low for the national currency has been recorded on Iran's free market: on September 9, the US dollar exchange rate reached a record 233,900 tomans.

The British pound sterling was trading at 316,000 tomans, the euro at 272,000 tomans, and the "Emami" gold coin rose in price to 242 million tomans.

In just two weeks, the Iranian rial depreciated by approximately 13% — as recently as late August, the dollar was closing trading at 206,400 tomans.

The sharp collapse of the national currency is occurring against the backdrop of an escalating military conflict in the region. Earlier, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the destruction of five Iranian oil tankers. In response, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reported an attack on 20 vessels in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz.
