The US has begun an urgent evacuation of diplomats from the Middle East
American authorities have begun urgently evacuating diplomats and their family members from a number of missions in the Middle East amid warnings of possible attacks by Iran.
This was reported by CNN, citing sources.
"The evacuation is described as an unfortunate and chaotic déjà vu, as many of those leaving had only recently returned to their posts after having left the countries at the height of the war with Iran," the report said.
A U.S. State Department memo dated October 23 states that Iran has significantly stepped up efforts to identify and attack American personnel. According to U.S. intelligence, the preparation of alleged operations against U.S. citizens "has reached an advanced stage" both in the Middle East and in some other countries.
Washington is also particularly concerned about the actions of Yemen's Houthis, who are backed by Tehran. Amid the escalation of their attacks, the State Department ordered the evacuation of non-essential personnel and their family members from Saudi Arabia.
In addition, the American side is temporarily reducing staff numbers at diplomatic missions in Jordan, Lebanon, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.
