Earlier, scientists from Colossal Biosciences announced their intention to resurrect the woolly mammoth, which went extinct 4,000 years ago. The first step has already been taken: researchers have developed a new species of mouse with mammoth characteristics. To do this, they focused on genes responsible for the main features of mammoths - woolly coat and fat metabolism.

Ben Lamm, CEO and founder of Colossal Biosciences, told the Daily Mail in an interview that the company expects to obtain the first mammoth embryos by the end of 2026, and the first calf could be born 22 months after that.
