Six years ago on this day, October 4, the city of Jabrayil was liberated from Armenian occupation.

Along with the city of Jabrayil, 9 villages were liberated on the same day - Karkhulu, Shukurbayli, Charakan, Dashkasan, Khorovlu, Mahmudlu, Jafarabad, Yukhari Maralyan, and Dajal.

The Azerbaijani flag was raised on the territories liberated from occupation.

With the liberation of Jabrayil from enemy occupation, control over the Azerbaijani-Iranian border was partially restored.

Jabrayil district was established on August 8, 1930; on January 4, 1963, it was dissolved and merged with Fizuli district. The district was re-established on June 17, 1964.

Jabrayil is located in the southeast of the Lesser Caucasus Mountains, in the foothills of the Karabakh range. To the south, the district borders Iran. The total area is 1,049 sq. km, and most of it consists of mountainous terrain.

On August 23, 1993, the armed forces of Armenia occupied Jabrayil district, which included one city, four settlements, and 97 villages. Throughout the entire period of occupation, internally displaced persons from Jabrayil lived in tent camps, freight wagons, and dormitories in 2,000 settlements across 58 districts of Azerbaijan.

On January 5, 1994, during the Horadiz operation, the village of Jojug Marjanli in Jabrayil district was liberated from occupation.

Six days after the victory in the Patriotic War, on November 16, 2020, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva visited the liberated Jabrayil district. The President raised the Azerbaijani flag in the city of Jabrayil and on the Khudafarin Bridge.

According to the decree of President Ilham Aliyev, October 4 is annually celebrated as Jabrayil City Day.
