Media: The US and Russia are conducting secret negotiations on a giant oil deal
Russia and the United States are negotiating the possibility of concluding a major oil deal.
This is stated in a New York Times article citing unnamed sources.
"The Trump administration's negotiations with Russia to end the war in Ukraine have expanded to include a multibillion-dollar oil deal," the newspaper notes.
According to the publication's sources, the discussions involve the possible sale of Russian energy assets. Among the subjects of discussion, which has been ongoing for several months, are oil fields, refineries, and gas stations located around the world belonging to the company Lukoil.
As one source stated, the American side views the deal as a way to improve relations with Moscow and lower global energy prices.
In October 2025, the United States imposed sanctions against Lukoil. The company announced the sale of its international assets, including refineries in Bulgaria, Romania, and the Netherlands. At the same time, its Bulgarian assets were placed under external management.
