The World Judo Championship kicks off today in Baku.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Report, on the first day of the competition at the National Gymnastics Arena, women will compete in the 48 kg weight category and men in the 60 kg weight category.

At the start of the tournament, four members of the Azerbaijani national team will step onto the tatami.

In the women's competition in the 48 kg weight category, Shafag Hamidova will face Natasha Razafindrakalo (Madagascar) in the round of 32, while Konul Aliyeva will face Marie Di Vargas Ley (Chile) in the round of 16.

In the men's competition in the 60 kg weight category, Balabay Agayev will face the winner of the pair Artem Kolosov (Belarus) / Dilshot Khalmatov (Ukraine) in the round of 16, while Ahmed Yusifov will face the winner of the bout between Bakhrom Boturov (Uzbekistan) / Tumenjargal Tuvshinturs (Mongolia).

It should be noted that 622 judokas from 93 countries — 335 men and 287 women — will take part in the competition, which will last until October 11. Azerbaijan will be represented in the individual competitions by 24 judokas in 13 weight categories — 17 men and 7 women. Our national team will also compete in the mixed team event, which will be held on October 11.
