Merz unexpectedly arrived in Kyiv
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has arrived in Kyiv on an unannounced visit.
As reported by BAKU.WS, he wrote about this on his account on the social network X.
"Decisive weeks lie ahead for Ukraine. That is why I came to Kyiv today to show that you can count on us. Germany's security also depends on the outcome of this war. That is why the assistance we provide (to Ukraine - ed.) is also in our own interest," he wrote.
According to the DPA news agency, Merz is accompanied on the trip by Economy Minister Katherina Reiche and representatives of Germany's business community. It is noted that Berlin intends to deliver thousands of interceptor drones to Kyiv and begin producing long-range weapons for Ukraine, which the Chancellor will announce during the visit. Germany plans to allocate 1 billion euros for these purposes, with an additional 350 million euros to go toward the restoration of energy infrastructure.
