Last week, a high-profile criminal trial concluded in which People's Artist of Azerbaijan Agadadash Agayev was accused.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to lent.az, the verdict was read at the Binagadi District Court presided over by Judge Vusal Tagiyev.

According to the verdict, 68-year-old Agadadash Agayev was found guilty of hooliganism and sentenced to two years of imprisonment. With the application of Article 70 (conditional sentence) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan, the punishment imposed on Agayev is considered conditional.

Today, Agadadash Agayev, together with his lawyer, commented on the verdict on camera. The People's Artist congratulated the Azerbaijani people on the upcoming holiday, noting that he is doing so from his home.

"I want to clarify some news being spread about me in the media. I was given 2 years of probation with a trial period. I am beside you. No restrictions have been imposed on my activities and actions," emphasized A. Agayev, adding that this was the first time in his life he found himself in such a situation and appeared before a court.

"I have always said that I live in a state governed by the rule of law. I, like all citizens of Azerbaijan, have equal rights before the law. It doesn't matter that I am a People's Artist and a recipient of various awards. Before the law, my neck is thinner than a hair," he added.

The artist's lawyer, Asim Abbasov, in turn noted that an opinion has formed in society about the alleged arrest of the actor.

"As you can see, he is at home. In the press, the conditional part of the sentence was slightly misinterpreted. According to the verdict, Agadadash Agayev has been given a conditional punishment with a probation period of 2 years. He will simply be carefully monitoring his behavior and actions during this period," the defender explained.
