A ship captured by pirates with fabulous treasures has been found

Archaeologists studying the wreckage of a sunken sailing ship have discovered that they are dealing with the Portuguese ship Nossa Senhora do Cabo. This was reported by LiveScience.
It is known that in early 1721, the ship departed from the Portuguese colony of Goa and headed to Lisbon. The vessel carried fabulous treasures for that time, including gold bars and chests with pearls. The total value of the cargo in today's money may exceed $138 million (about 11 billion rubles). The ship encountered a storm, and soon after was attacked by pirates. They captured the Nossa Senhora do Cabo and transported all the treasures to St. Mary's Island.
American researchers from the Center for Historic Shipwreck Preservation studied the wreckage for 16 years. According to archaeologist Mark Agostini, more than 3,300 items were recovered from underwater. Analysis of the vessel's construction, historical records, and findings confirms that the specialists are indeed dealing with the Nossa Senhora do Cabo.
