Nikol Pashinyan resigned

Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan has resigned, BAKU.WS reports citing Armenian media.

"In accordance with Article 158 of the Constitution, on the first day of work of the newly elected National Assembly, the government submits its resignation," Pashinyan wrote on his social media.

In the published video, Pashinyan signed the government's resignation statement. It was sent to the President of Armenia.

He noted that the members of the resigned government continue to fulfill their duties, and the President of the Republic of Armenia, after the beginning of the term of office of the newly elected National Assembly, immediately appoints as Prime Minister the candidate of the parliamentary majority.

The resignation was announced by the Armenian government. This is explained by the formation on August 2 of the new composition of the 9th convocation of the Armenian parliament.

According to the latest parliamentary elections, Pashinyan's party "Civil Contract" received more than 49.7% of the votes. This result will allow it to independently form a new government.
