Macron to convene G7 meeting on energy situation

French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Friday a French initiative to convene a G7 group meeting dedicated to energy issues, which will take place in the coming weeks, in order to make progress in improving coordination regarding fuel stockpile levels.

As reported by Interfax, Macron made this statement on Friday after holding a meeting at the Élysée Palace with political parties represented in parliament and candidates for the 2027 presidential elections.

This meeting should help "avoid unnecessary tensions between G7 countries and our main partners," as well as "review options for the potential release of strategic reserves," the head of state noted.

The French president also spoke about the country's domestic energy issues. He stated that he is working to ensure supplies of diesel fuel and gas and to prevent tensions in these markets.

Macron assured that France is at "the proper level of expected stockpiles and will achieve the filling of storage facilities for this winter."

He announced that he would contact the President of the European Commission on Friday "on the issue of gas storage at the European level," as well as on the topics of "accelerating all possible measures to reduce our prices and the structure of energy prices."
