Why do Pashinyan's peaceful statements addressed to Azerbaijan diverge from his statements in Armenia?

Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan was awarded the Hessian Peace Prize. In accepting the award, he specifically noted the contribution of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to the establishment of peace in the South Caucasus and expressed his gratitude for the efforts toward the normalization of relations.

Meanwhile, discussions continue in Armenia regarding issues related to territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Against this backdrop, the question arises: to what extent is it acceptable for a country whose leader receives such an award to continue making claims to the territories of a neighboring state?

As political analyst Turab Rzayev told Baku TV, the fact that Pashinyan emphasized Azerbaijan's role during the award ceremony is a positive moment.

However, one must not forget that Pashinyan was forced into peace by the Azerbaijani army. According to the expert, although Pashinyan himself and his team are trying to demonstrate commitment to the peace agenda, Armenian society is not ready for peace, as the hatred toward Azerbaijanis and Turks that has been instilled over the years has not subsided. The population supports Pashinyan only out of fear of a new war, but his peace initiatives face fierce resistance, and the authorities' steps are insufficient to change the overall public opinion in Armenia.
