Russia and Iran have signed a package of documents on the project to build the Rasht–Astara railway line.
As reported by Oxu.Az with reference to TASS, this was announced to journalists by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Andrey Nikitin.
"A package of documents on the project to build the Rasht–Astara railway line has been finalized in Tehran. The Russian organization 'Caspian Services' and the Iranian company CDTIC signed a protocol on providing access to land plots along the entire length of the route for advance engineering surveys, as well as an additional agreement to the contract," he said.
Nikitin added that the plots have already been transferred. This will allow the continuation of advance engineering surveys and extend the timeline for the necessary work. This year, Russian specialists built a geodetic control network and conducted aerial photography, and currently hydrological and meteorological surveys and topographic mapping are being carried out.
The Rasht–Astara section will connect the railway networks of Russia and Iran into a single system. It is a key element of the North–South International Transport Corridor, which will open a seamless route for cargo delivery to the Persian Gulf and further to the countries of the South Asian region.
