US President Donald Trump is discussing with aides the possible resignation of Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth.
This was reported by CBS News, citing sources.
It is noted that the head of the Washington administration is consulting with advisors about whether Hegseth should remain in his position amid the Republicans' defeat in the midterm congressional elections. However, Trump has not yet made a final decision regarding a possible replacement of the Pentagon chief.
The network notes that Democrats had been trying to remove Hegseth from his position even before the elections, and with their gaining control of both chambers of Congress, these efforts may intensify.
As a reminder, midterm elections were held in the United States on November 3. Americans elected 35 out of 100 senators and all 435 members of the House of Representatives. Gubernatorial elections were also held in 36 states. According to the latest estimates from American media, Democrats are gaining a majority of seats in both chambers of Congress, which will begin its work in the new composition on January 3, 2027.
