SpaceX Rocket Will Crash Into the Moon

The four-ton second stage of a Falcon 9 rocket, belonging to American entrepreneur and billionaire Elon Musk's company SpaceX, will collide with the surface of the Moon on the morning of August 5.

This was reported by The Guardian newspaper.

The stage in question is from the rocket that on January 15, 2025, launched the Blue Ghost-1 landing module by Firefly and the Japanese lunar spacecraft Resilience, developed by ispace, toward the Moon.

According to specialists' calculations, the collision will occur at approximately 6:35 AM GMT (9:35 AM Moscow time). The stage will hit the surface of Earth's satellite at a speed of about 8,690 km/h.

NASA stated that the impact would create a crater approximately 18 meters wide and about 4 meters deep, and a cloud of dust and rocks would rise above the surface. It is expected that the stage will fall into the Einstein crater, located near the western edge of the Moon. This area is often difficult to observe from Earth.

Prior to this, Musk said that in the coming decades the company intends to build self-sustaining cities on the Moon and Mars. According to him, the company's specialists have already focused on implementing such a project on Earth's satellite, and results could be achieved in less than 10 years.
