US military permitted to attack IRGC boats under one condition
The US military has been authorized to strike Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) boats and Iranian missile positions if ships in the Strait of Hormuz are threatened.
This was reported on the social network X by Axios journalist Barak Ravid, citing a White House official.
"A senior US official said that the rules of engagement for American forces in the region have been changed, and they have been given the authority to attack immediate threats to ships crossing the strait, such as IRGC speedboats or Iranian missile launcher positions," Ravid wrote.
On April 23, the US president announced that he had ordered the US Navy to shoot and destroy any vessels, even small boats, that are laying mines in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz.
On April 21, it became known that Iranian enriched uranium and the Strait of Hormuz were supposed to be the main topics of US-Iran negotiations in Islamabad. However, Tehran's negotiating team decided not to travel to the Pakistani capital for the meeting, as Washington had violated its commitments under the ceasefire framework and refused to dictate ceasefire terms to Israel in Lebanon.
