Trump announced breakthrough agreements in Davos: NATO, Greenland and the Peace Council
US President Donald Trump stated that a "wonderful trip" to Davos allowed for reaching an agreement with NATO on Greenland and establishing a Peace Council.
"What a wonderful trip to Davos it was! We achieved a great deal, including the conclusion of a framework agreement with NATO on Greenland. And also [established] a Peace Council! Wow! Make America Great Again!" - he wrote on Truth Social.
On Wednesday, Trump stated that following his meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, the outlines of possible agreements regarding Greenland, which is part of Denmark as an autonomous territory, were developed. The head of the Washington administration had previously repeatedly claimed that ownership of the island is necessary to strengthen US national security and effectively deploy the Golden Dome missile defense system.
On January 22, representatives of 19 countries signed the charter of the Peace Council on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, created as part of the peace settlement in the Gaza Strip. Trump stated that other countries have also joined the organization. The Peace Council was established in accordance with an agreement between Israel and the radical Palestinian movement Hamas to govern Gaza, but it is expected that it will also deal with the prevention and settlement of conflicts in other regions.
