Doctor named the main causes of gastritis flare-ups
The Helicobacter pylori bacterium, alcohol consumption, as well as excess spicy and fatty foods most often cause exacerbation of gastritis. This was reported by therapist Kasim Ahmed from the National Health Service.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to the Daily Mirror, gastritis is an inflammation of the gastric mucosa and in its development mechanism resembles a sunburn. Despite the absence of pain receptors in the stomach, the disease rarely proceeds without symptoms: patients complain of heaviness, bloating, belching, and nausea. With the regular appearance of such signs, the doctor advises not to ignore them and seek medical help, rather than attributing the discomfort to overeating or stress.
The specialist named the Helicobacter pylori infection as the most common cause of gastritis. This bacterium may not manifest itself for a long time, but gradually destroys the protective layer of the gastric mucosa, increasing the risk of developing chronic inflammation. Diet also has a significant impact: fatty, spicy, and fried foods increase irritation of the mucosa and can provoke exacerbations.
Ahmed attributed acidic juices and alcohol to additional risk factors, which increase the acid load on the stomach and slow down the recovery of its walls. According to the doctor, gastritis often develops under the influence of several causes at once, so prevention should be comprehensive and include both treatment of infection and correction of diet and lifestyle.
In cases of bacterial nature of the disease, doctors may prescribe antibiotics and drugs that reduce inflammation. Bananas, yogurt, oatmeal, and other high-fiber foods can also alleviate the symptoms of gastritis, the expert concluded.
