# Doctor named the reason for sudden awakening at three in the morning in healthy people
Sudden awakenings around three o'clock in the morning may be linked to elevated cortisol levels - a hormone responsible for the body's stress response.
As reported by BAKU.WS citing Daily Mirror, this was stated by general practitioner Amir Khan.
According to the specialist, nighttime awakenings can happen to anyone and often occur at approximately the same time - closer to three o'clock in the morning. During this period, cortisol levels begin to rise, preparing the body for natural awakening.
The doctor emphasized that this mechanism is normal. However, with increased anxiety and chronic stress, the nervous system becomes more sensitive, so an increase in hormone levels can cause sudden awakening. A similar reaction, he added, can also be triggered by a drop in blood sugar levels.
