Media: Apple will transform Siri into a ChatGPT-like chatbot

American corporation Apple will change the development strategy of the voice assistant Siri and transform it into a full-fledged chatbot similar to ChatGPT.

As BAKU.WS reports with reference to Bloomberg, the updated version of the service will be presented as part of iOS 27 at the WWDC developers conference in June 2026.

The project has received the internal code name Campos. The new version of Siri will support both voice and text input, which will bring the functionality of the assistant closer to modern conversational AI services. Previously, Apple's Senior Vice President of Software Engineering Craig Federighi stated that the company did not intend to turn Siri into a chatbot, however, according to Bloomberg, Apple has reconsidered this approach amid the rapid growth in popularity of chatbots among competitors.

An additional stimulus for accelerating the work could be the potential threat from OpenAI, which is preparing to enter the hardware device market under the leadership of former Apple chief designer Jony Ive and plans to present its first AI gadget as early as 2026.

As TechCrunch notes, Apple is noticeably behind in the race for leadership in artificial intelligence. The company has repeatedly postponed the launch of an advanced version of Siri and was actively searching for a technology partner last year, testing solutions from OpenAI and Anthropic. Eventually, Apple settled on Google's Gemini technology.
