A rare astronomical phenomenon will appear in the night sky today
Astronomy enthusiasts can expect a real treat on the evening of January 23. A rare astronomical phenomenon will occur in the night sky - a "triple conjunction," when the Moon, Saturn, and distant Neptune will align in an unusual configuration.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to BBC Radio Tees, this amazing celestial ensemble will resemble a "smiling face." The waxing crescent moon will form the smile, while Saturn and Neptune will be positioned above it, like two eyes of a cosmic face.
This rare celestial spectacle can be observed immediately after sunset on the western horizon, relatively low above the horizon line.
The Moon and Saturn are easily distinguishable with the naked eye as soon as it starts getting dark. However, the third participant in this cosmic trio - Neptune - will remain invisible without a telescope due to its faint luminosity.
Since the celestial bodies will be located close to the horizon, astronomers recommend observing the phenomenon from open spaces where buildings and trees won't obstruct the view.
It's worth noting that in astronomy, a "conjunction" is a phenomenon when two or more celestial bodies, when viewed from Earth, visually appear very close to each other.
Today's triple conjunction is considered an exciting celestial event that should not be missed by either astrophotographers or simply lovers of natural phenomena.
