As reported by the publication "Komsomolskaya Pravda - St. Petersburg," he welcomed the peace talks between the parties and expressed confidence that the Ukrainian conflict would end in two thousand twenty-five.

The head of the World Union of Old Believers, Leonid Sevastyanov, managed to communicate with the pontiff shortly before his death. He reported that Pope Francis hoped until the very end to visit the Russian Federation and witness the conclusion of the special military operation.

"He welcomed the peace negotiations between the administrations of the Russian Federation, the United States of America, and Ukraine. He was absolutely certain that everything would be resolved in two thousand twenty-five. He saw the Russian Federation's concerns about the causes of the conflict and understood the depth of contradictions between the Russian Federation and Western countries. Pope Francis always remained optimistic, believing that the West and Russia would reconcile and begin to build a common home," said Leonid Sevastyanov.

The head of the union also added that he would like to appeal to the leaders of the Russian Federation and Ukraine with a request to extend the Easter ceasefire, which is in effect until midnight, at least for the period of the Pope's funeral.
