A national day of mourning has been declared in Kazakhstan

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev declared a national day of mourning on September 25 following the deaths of military personnel in the Caspian Sea.

The relevant information was released by the press service of the Kazakh leader.

"By order of the head of state, in connection with the deaths of military personnel in the line of duty in Mangystau Region, a national day of mourning has been declared in the Republic of Kazakhstan on September 25, 2026," the statement read.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan reported that during the execution of a training combat mission in Mangystau Region, amid a sharp deterioration of weather conditions and intensifying winds, 19 military personnel were swept into the Caspian Sea. Nine of them died, three were rescued, and the search for the remaining personnel continues.
