Legendary American boxer, former heavyweight world champion George Foreman has passed away at the age of 76.

The sad news was announced by the athlete's family members through his official Instagram page.

"It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr., who peacefully departed on March 21, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. We are grateful for the love and prayers you have sent and ask for privacy as we honor the extraordinary life of this man," - says the touching message from relatives.

Foreman's outstanding career began in 1949 in the United States. He shined in the professional heavyweight ring during two periods: from 1969 to 1977 and after an impressive comeback from 1987 to 1997. Throughout his career, the American boxer won championship belts in all prestigious versions: WBC, WBA, IBF, and WBO. Twice, in 1973 and 1976, the authoritative magazine The Ring recognized him as "Boxer of the Year."

Foreman secured a special place in sports history in 1994 when, at the age of 45, he became the oldest world champion in boxing history, winning titles in the WBA and IBF versions. This impressive record was only surpassed in 2010 by his compatriot Bernard Hopkins, however, Foreman forever remains the oldest heavyweight champion.

Foreman's brilliant career is also adorned with a gold medal from the 1968 Olympic Games. In the professional ring, the legendary boxer fought 81 bouts, winning 76 victories (68 of them by knockout) and suffering only 5 defeats.
