Iran struck back at a US base
Forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) struck a U.S. air base in response to U.S. actions in the Iranian area of Bandar Abbas.
This was reported by Iranian media.
"Following attacks this morning by U.S. military forces on a facility near Bandar Abbas airport using aviation munitions, the U.S. air base that served as the source of this was attacked. Any subsequent U.S. attacks will be met with a more decisive response," the IRGC statement said.
In addition, the IRGC command emphasized that the United States bears responsibility for the consequences of attacks on Iran.
The Tasnim agency, for its part, notes that the strikes were carried out at 04:50 (05:20 Baku time), while the location of the attacked air base was not specified.
Meanwhile, U.S. media draw attention to the fact that on the night of Thursday, May 28, air defense forces in Kuwait, where U.S. military facilities including an air base are also located, were repelling missile and drone attacks.
Earlier, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that U.S. military forces on the night of Thursday shot down four Iranian kamikaze drones and struck a ground control station in Bandar Abbas from which a fifth drone was being prepared for launch, while emphasizing that the military's actions were "purely defensive and aimed at maintaining the ceasefire."
This is already the second incident this week.
On Tuesday, May 26, CENTCOM spokesperson Captain Tim Hawkins reported "self-defense strikes" in the Bandar Abbas area. He explained that the targets of the strikes were anti-aircraft missile launchers and Iranian boats attempting to lay mines.
