The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and China's China Offshore Oil Engineering Company (COOEC) discussed cooperation opportunities within the framework of the full-scale development project of the "Absheron" field in the Caspian Sea.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to SOCAR, the discussions took place during a meeting between the company's Vice President Babek Huseynov and COOEC Deputy General Director Wang Wei.
"During the meeting, the possibilities of a potential partnership between the two companies were considered and the importance of expanding ties was emphasized," the statement said.
During the discussions, the Chinese company was provided with detailed information about SOCAR's strategic goals and energy projects implemented by the company onshore and offshore.
An exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest also took place.
COOEC, controlled by the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), is the only major engineering and construction company in China that integrates design, material procurement, construction, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of offshore oil and gas facilities, as well as liquefied natural gas production facilities, offshore wind energy, oil refining, and chemical industry facilities.
As previously reported, the French company TotalEnergies plans to begin first gas production at the "Absheron" field in September 2029 as part of the full-scale development. The final investment decision on the full-scale development is planned to be made in July of this year.
According to TotalEnergies, at the peak production stage, Phase 2 will provide production of 12.7 million cubic meters of gas per day (4.5 billion cubic meters per year), as well as 35,000 barrels of condensate per day in addition to the production carried out under Phase 1.
