The doctor named an unexpected sign of Parkinson's disease
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to the Russian specialist, certain movement patterns can indicate neurological disorders. In particular, a shuffling gait, small rapid steps, and the sensation that the feet are "sticking" to the floor may be early symptoms of Parkinson's disease.
According to the expert, loss of stability, swaying during turns, and a constant fear of falling are often associated with cerebellar dysfunction, vestibular system problems, as well as consequences of stroke or vascular changes in the brain.
The specialist noted that an excessively wide stance, unsteady short steps, and frequent collisions with furniture sometimes indicate not only motor impairments but also cognitive disorders. Additionally, a sudden change in gait over a short period may point to acute conditions — infections, vascular problems, or medication side effects.
Bagautdinov also emphasized that falls in old age can trigger serious complications. After injuries, a person's ability to sense the position of their own body in space deteriorates, which impairs coordination and increases the likelihood of further falls.
In the doctor's opinion, in such cases it is important not to limit treatment to the injury alone. Full recovery requires comprehensive rehabilitation, including physical therapy and work on balance and movement coordination.
