Cardiologist debunked misconception about the benefits of chocolate
The belief that exclusively dark chocolate benefits the body while milk chocolate has no valuable properties lacks definitive scientific confirmation. Cardiologist Mahbub Alam discussed this in an interview with The Times of India.
The doctor cited a large-scale study involving more than 21,000 participants. Its results showed that people who consumed up to 100 grams of chocolate daily had a lower likelihood of developing cardiovascular diseases. Notably, the majority of participants preferred milk chocolate rather than dark chocolate.
According to the specialist, these findings should not be interpreted as evidence of any special benefits of milk chocolate. The study merely demonstrates that categorical conclusions about the harm or benefits of one type of product or another cannot be drawn. At the same time, the cardiologist noted that dark chocolate does indeed contain approximately 70% more flavanols — substances that have a beneficial effect on vascular health and may help reduce cholesterol levels.
