# Extreme Weather Disasters Predicted Worldwide - THE REASON
Meteorologists expect records from the current El Niño that has begun in the tropical part of the Pacific Ocean. Weather anomalies triggered by the climate phenomenon are already being recorded on different continents.
As reported by Oxu.Az, this is written by Agence France-Presse (AFP).
"We have never had a forecast like this for El Niño that would be confirmed by various forecasting models," said Tim Stockdale, a researcher at the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts.
Forecasting models point to an "extreme event," the expert noted. According to him, the current El Niño is not comparable to previous ones he has observed over three decades of work.
El Niño occurs in the central and eastern Pacific Ocean once every few years and lasts up to a year. The phenomenon triggers weather changes around the world. The World Meteorological Organization reported that the record heat in Western Europe and the central United States this year was precisely a consequence of the arriving El Niño. Drought is expected in Central America and the Caribbean, and the same forecast applies to Indonesia and Southeast Asia, despite the monsoon season. In East Africa, on the contrary, above-normal precipitation is forecast.
"From July to September, rapid development of strong El Niño manifestations is expected, and the forecast is considered highly reliable," the UN stated. Forecast models, in particular, pointed to "sustained and significant warming of ocean temperatures" — sea surface temperatures could rise by more than 2 degrees Celsius.
The European monitoring service Copernicus Marine reported a week ago that the average global ocean surface temperature in June rose to the highest values in the entire history of observations, approaching +21 degrees Celsius.
