Taleh Gurbanov (born 1984) sentenced for killing his martyred brother's widow Laman Gurbanova (born 1999) in Gilyazi village of Khizi district

As Qafqazinfo reports, the defendant, who strangled his brother Saleh Gurbanov's wife (Saleh died in 2022), was found guilty under Article 120.2.2 (deliberate murder committed out of hooliganism) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.

During the investigation, it was revealed that after S.Gurbanov's death, problems began in his family. The martyr's brother Taleh was against Leyla opening a TikTok account and beat her for it. He believed that during Saleh's lifetime, his wife did not use social media, and now it was also unacceptable. Leyla stated that on her page "Sənsiz həyat" ("Life without you"), she only shared publications related to her late husband, and about 20-25 of her acquaintances liked it. A few days before the tragedy, Taleh took Leyla's phone and smashed it.

After this, relations in the family remained extremely tense, and Leyla decided to leave her father-in-law's house and return to her family. However, Taleh and other relatives demanded that the bank cards issued in connection with the martyr's death remain with them. That day, they took Leyla to a shrine to dissuade her from this idea. But after returning home, Taleh attacked Leyla and deliberately took her life by strangling her.

By decision of the Sumgayit Court for Serious Crimes, Taleh Gurbanov was sentenced to 17 years of imprisonment.

It should be noted that Saleh Gurbanov died on September 12, 2022, while repelling a large-scale provocation committed by the Armenian armed forces, and was posthumously awarded the "Azerbaijani Flag" order.
