In the Milli Majlis, CNN was demanded to prove the accusations against Azerbaijan
The Milli Majlis demanded that CNN either prove the published claims against Azerbaijan or publicly acknowledge their groundlessness.
This statement was made by the parliament's temporary Commission on Combating Foreign Interference and Hybrid Threats.
"The Commission calls on the transnational media company CNN to present evidence for its claims in the article 'Israel sent troops to Azerbaijan as part of a covert regional network during the war with Iran,' which cites unnamed sources, or to provide clarification regarding the unfounded disinformation about Azerbaijan," the statement reads.
According to the commission, the publication is part of a disinformation campaign and aims to undermine the peace process in the Middle East, as well as the national interests and international reputation of Azerbaijan.
The commission emphasized that such information campaigns against Azerbaijan by CNN and a number of other media outlets have been observed before and often intensify on the eve of important international events, diplomatic initiatives, or political processes.
According to the results of monitoring conducted, after the article was published, it began to spread rapidly across the international information space.
"Immediately after the publication of the material, through the tactic of so-called 'opportunistic amplification,' the anti-Azerbaijani narrative was promptly disseminated by a number of international media outlets, as well as through the platforms X, Threads, Facebook, and Telegram, taking on the character of a large-scale information campaign," the document states.
The commission also drew attention to the fact that the authors of the publication used as one of the commentators a person who is known for his anti-Azerbaijani stance and had previously collaborated with media projects funded by the Soros Foundation.
The parliamentary commission recalled that Azerbaijani state authorities have repeatedly stated that there are no foreign military bases or military contingents on the country's territory, and that the use of Azerbaijan's territory for hostile actions against third countries is impossible.
"If CNN fails to present evidence for its claims, this will be yet another confirmation that the television network, by disseminating materials based on unverified and anonymous sources, serves as an instrument of information provocations, false narratives, and disinformation campaigns, which are important components of hybrid threats," the commission emphasized.
