Azerbaijan and UNEP discussed cooperation in environmental protection
Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov met with the Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Inger Andersen, who is visiting Baku.
As reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the meeting, views were exchanged on issues of cooperation between Azerbaijan and UNEP, environmental protection, combating climate change, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development.
Bayramov informed about Azerbaijan's contribution to the global climate agenda, the results achieved within the framework of COP29, as well as initiatives on the transition to green energy and environmental protection.
Andersen highly appreciated Azerbaijan's contribution to advancing the climate agenda and international cooperation in the field of ecology.
The parties discussed cooperation in the areas of climate financing, sustainable cities, waste management, water resources protection, and biodiversity. The importance of expanding joint projects between UNEP and Azerbaijan was emphasized.
The significance of Azerbaijan hosting World Environment Day in 2026 was also noted, within the framework of which areas of cooperation were discussed.
