President: Consistent measures are being taken to combat corruption in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan has been consistently taking measures to combat corruption. An important role in preventing corruption is played by the improvement of legislation, enhancement of transparency and accountability in public administration, digitalization and ensuring accessibility of public services, and strengthening of public oversight.

This was stated in the address of President Ilham Aliyev to the participants of the 3rd High-Level Meeting of Heads of Anti-Corruption Bodies of the Member States of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation in Baku.

The head of state noted that during the nearly 30-year period of occupation of our lands, the illegal exploitation of our natural resources, including mineral deposits, with the involvement of foreign actors, caused serious damage to the ecology of the region. A significant portion of the revenues obtained as a result of these crimes was laundered through international financial channels.

"Digital development, especially the rapid spread of artificial intelligence, while expanding the possibilities of combating corruption, also creates conditions for the emergence of new forms of corruption and the abuse of digital financial instruments. The effective use of the potential of modern technological solutions by the relevant law enforcement agencies is of particular importance for the prevention and effective investigation of such crimes.

I am confident that the upcoming discussions in Baku and the proposals put forward will serve to further deepen cooperation between OIC member states in the fight against corruption, strengthen trust, and promote the sustainable development of our countries," the address states.
