In the EU, the restoration of the Nakhchivan railway was named one of the key investment projects
The European Union considers the restoration of the railway infrastructure of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic as one of the key investment projects in Azerbaijan.
As reported by Report, this was stated by Viktor Bozhkov, head of the cooperation section of the EU Delegation in Azerbaijan, at a press briefing.
According to him, this railway had been in a state of neglect for a long time.
Bozhkov said that he recently visited Nakhchivan and, together with a group of experts, inspected the railway section along the Julfa-Nakhchivan route.
"We traveled along this route on a service train, the speed of which was about 20 km/h. It took about three hours to cover approximately 20 kilometers of track," he noted.
According to the EU representative, specialists are currently analyzing the technical condition of the line, the volume of necessary investments, possible restoration mechanisms, and the estimated cost of the project.
"Preliminary results show that the railway infrastructure is generally in satisfactory condition," Bozhkov said.
He noted that during the inspection, experts examined the condition of bridges, overpasses, as well as the railway section along the Araz River, in close proximity to the state border.
"This project to restore the Nakhchivan railway is of national importance and is considered one of the priority investment directions," Bozhkov emphasized.
