MEDIA demanded an apology from CNN for deliberate fake news about Azerbaijan

The Media Development Agency of Azerbaijan (MEDİA) demanded a retraction and apology from CNN for disinformation claiming that Azerbaijan's territory was allegedly used by Israel during military operations against Iran.

This was reported by BAKU.WS with reference to a statement by MEDİA.

"CNN, citing fabricated 'sources,' published an article claiming that Azerbaijan's territory was allegedly used by Israel during the war with Iran. The dissemination of blatantly false information without any factual evidence by a world-renowned transnational media company is regarded as a gross and deliberate information manipulation," the statement reads.

MEDİA emphasized that by spreading disinformation, the TV channel disregarded media ethics standards and fundamental principles of professional journalism, including the requirement to maintain a balance of opinions.

"Having tarnished its own reputation, CNN effectively served as a propaganda tool within the framework of hybrid warfare," the agency believes.

The statement also notes that the disseminated information constitutes a political provocation directed against Azerbaijan and regional security.

"The publication of such information is designed not only to create confusion in the international community but also to undermine regional stability, interstate relations, and to create additional tension in the region," MEDİA stated.

The agency reminded that it has been repeatedly stated at the highest official level that Azerbaijan's territory was under no circumstances used against Iran, and such claims are fabrications.

"We demand that CNN issue a retraction and an apology to Azerbaijan for disseminating information that contradicts the principles of media ethics and journalistic professionalism, as well as misleads the public," the statement emphasizes.
