Three years have passed since the devastating earthquake that occurred on February 6, 2023, in Kahramanmaraş province and adjacent areas of Turkey.

As a result of the seismic shocks with magnitudes of 7.7 and 7.6, according to updated data, 53,537 people died, and another 107,213 were injured.

The natural disaster caused major destruction in 11 provinces, 124 districts, nearly 7,000 villages and neighborhoods, directly affecting 14 million people. Turkish authorities called the earthquake the "disaster of the century."

About 39,000 buildings were destroyed, and search and rescue operations were conducted in 26,000 of them. Among the dead were four Azerbaijani students.

In the very first hours after the terrible tragedy, rescuers from the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan were dispatched to the earthquake zone. At the same time, our citizens supported the fraternal people with financial resources and donations.

As part of the reconstruction work carried out by our country in Kahramanmaraş, the "Azerbaijan Quarter" was built. On November 12, 2025, work on this project was completed, and the residential premises were put into operation.

Built on 320 hectares at the intersection of the Hayrullah and Şazibey neighborhoods of the Onikişubat district, the complex consists of 1,323 residential units and 799 workplaces.

A school named after Heydar Aliyev and a modern cultural center were also built on the territory.
