Scientists showed space-traveling mice after 30-day flight
Russian scientists have for the first time presented photos of mice that have been to space on board the biosatellite "Bion-M" No. 2. The images were published by the press service of the Institute of Biomedical Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The photos show the initial examination of the animals after the spacecraft returned to Earth: they are being weighed, their motor activity is being checked, their body temperature is being measured, and they are given simple tasks. According to the researchers' comments, the rodents are feeling satisfactory.
The satellite launched from Baikonur on August 20 and orbited at an altitude of 370-380 kilometers for 30 days. During this time, over 30 scientific experiments were conducted. According to the director of the Institute, Oleg Orlov, 10 out of 75 mice that participated in the flight died.
