Russian public association "Voice of the People" has come forward with an initiative to introduce "sobriety days" in the country.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Russian media, activists have sent an official appeal to the Ministry of Health and the State Duma with a proposal to ban the sale of alcoholic products on five significant dates.

According to the proposal, restrictions may affect the following days: May 25 (Last Bell Day), June 28 (school graduation), July 8 (Day of Family, Love and Fidelity), September 1 (Knowledge Day) and October 3 (World Sobriety Day). The initiative is based on the experience of neighboring Belarus, where similar practices are already being successfully implemented in some regions.

In their appeal, the public activists emphasize that the introduction of "sobriety days" will promote a healthy lifestyle, prevent alcoholism, especially among young people, and reduce the negative consequences of alcohol consumption. In addition to a temporary ban on alcohol sales, the organization proposes holding special educational events on these days. The program may include meetings with medical experts, educational lectures on the harms of alcohol, and promotion of a healthy lifestyle. Earlier in the Vologda region, where restrictions on the sale of alcoholic products were introduced, a decrease in mortality rates was recorded.

Russian Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko noted that restricting alcohol consumption can bring "quick victories" that "allow reducing mortality rates and disability among the population."
