Three external signs of high cholesterol levels identified
Therapist and endoscopist Nino Javakhia named three external signs that may indicate elevated cholesterol levels in the blood.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to "Lenta.ru", one of the first external signals the doctor mentioned was the appearance of xanthomas - yellowish plaques on the face, eyelids, or body. According to the specialist, these are intradermal accumulations of fats, including cholesterol and triglycerides, and occur against the background of lipid metabolism disorders.
In addition, with high cholesterol levels, a so-called corneal arcus may form - a light or yellowish-white ring around the edge of the eye's cornea. Javakhia explained that it is formed due to the deposition of cholesterol and fats and does not pose a danger to vision.
The doctor named excess weight as another possible sign of elevated cholesterol. According to her, people with excess body weight often have diets dominated by calorie-rich foods containing trans fats, which directly affects blood cholesterol levels.
