In Microsoft Named the Most Important Date for Windows Users
Windows computer users have been told what will happen to their devices after June 24.
This was reported by PCWorld.
The publication's journalists reminded that since the beginning of the year, Microsoft has been updating Secure Boot security certificates, which are necessary for providing basic protection of the operating system (OS). The company also explained what will happen to devices that do not receive new certificates before this important date.
Scott Shell, a senior software development engineer at Microsoft, stated that if a personal computer (PC) does not receive the new certificate before the specified deadline, the device will not suddenly stop working. However, the OS will not be able to load new blacklists containing information about dangerous software for Windows. Shell explained that most PCs have already received the new certificates — the problem may only occur with devices on which the Secure Boot update is blocked.
Microsoft has also set a final deadline by which a Windows computer must receive the new certificate — October 2026. Shell clarified that the tech giant is updating certificates up to 2023. Additionally, he noted that without the update, a Windows PC may eventually fail to boot at all.
