SOCAR Green has created a "roadmap" for decarbonizing the activities of Azerbaijan's State Agency for Water Resources.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Report, this was stated by SOCAR Green CEO Elmir Musayev, speaking at the panel discussion "Cross-border Infrastructure Projects within the Framework of Public-Private Partnership for Ensuring Regional Connectivity," held as part of the annual meetings of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group in Baku.

"We are implementing a joint project with the largest consumer of electrical energy in the country - Azerbaijan's State Agency for Water Resources. A 'roadmap' was developed for them, in accordance with which we will carry out the decarbonization of their activities and simultaneously implement energy efficiency solutions, which represents a fundamentally new direction for our state.

Increasing renewable energy capacity in Azerbaijan is of paramount importance, however it is equally important to pay attention to energy efficiency and rational use of energy resources at both the national and global levels," E. Musayev emphasized.

According to him, SOCAR Green is actively developing initiatives in other technological areas as well.

"In particular, we are promoting geothermal energy in Azerbaijan. In addition, we have two pilot projects in the field of offshore (marine) wind energy. Azerbaijan has significant technical potential on the Caspian Sea coast, and each of our two pilot projects with a capacity of 200 MW can be scaled up to 2–3 GW. Furthermore, we are conducting extensive work on promising technologies - biofuel, biochar, and biogas. We expect that in the foreseeable future we will have flagship projects in this direction as well," the head of the company added.
