Scientists have identified two products that help reduce inflammation in the body

The combination of fermented kefir and dietary fiber reduces inflammation in the body significantly more effectively than omega-3 acids or prebiotics alone. This conclusion was reached by scientists from the University of Nottingham. The results of the study are published in the Journal of Translational Medicine.
Prebiotics are food components that are not digested or absorbed in the upper sections of the gastrointestinal tract. They are fermented by the microflora of the human large intestine, stimulating its growth and activity.
In the experiment, volunteers took one of the supplements for six weeks: omega-3 fatty acids, prebiotic fiber, or their combination in the form of kefir with prebiotics. Only participants in the third group showed a steady decrease in inflammatory markers in the blood and improved overall well-being.
As the authors explain, the key role in this effect is played by the synergy of components. Fiber acts as a nutrient medium for beneficial microorganisms contained in kefir and enhances their activity. As a result, there is increased production of short-chain fatty acids, such as butyrate, which help regulate the immune response and reduce chronic inflammation.
Scientists emphasize that it is specifically the combination of ingredients - separately kefir and dietary fiber did not demonstrate a pronounced effect. According to researchers, such a "synbiotic" approach can become a promising direction in the prevention and treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases, including cardiovascular ones.
