Volcano in Hawaii spewed lava to a record height
Kilauea volcano in Hawaii ejected a lava fountain to a record height of more than 450 meters. This was reported by Hawaii News, citing the US Geological Survey.
According to the US Geological Survey, the eruption from the southern crater began around 8:50 PM local time and rapidly intensified.
"At 10:11 PM, the US Geological Survey reported record-high fountains for this eruption - at a height of almost 1500 feet (457 meters)," the article states.
This was the highest single fountain and the highest pair of fountains observed during this eruption, the publication notes.
The gas column above the fountains reached a height of more than 16,000 feet (4876 meters) above ground level.
