Pezeshkian: The US and Israel wanted to take control of Iran within two days

The US and Israel intended to take control of Iran within 48 hours.

As reported by ISNA, this was stated by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

"Despite all the difficulties, today Iran is called a strong and respected country," the Iranian leader said.

In his address to the nation on the anniversary of his inauguration, the Iranian president also stated that all US efforts were aimed at inciting divisions.

As a reminder, on February 28, the US and Israel launched a military operation against Iran, carrying out airstrikes on a number of cities. As a result of the strikes, according to the Iranian side, former Supreme Leader of Iran Ali Khamenei was killed. In response, Iran attacked Israeli territory and American military bases in Persian Gulf countries.

On the night of April 8, Iran, the US, and their allies reached a ceasefire agreement. Later, US President Donald Trump extended the ceasefire indefinitely.

The parties also held negotiations in Pakistan, but the first round, held on April 11–12, ended without results.

On June 18, the leaders of the US and Iran — Donald Trump and Masoud Pezeshkian — digitally signed a memorandum of understanding. However, on July 8, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced "powerful strikes" on Iranian territory in response to attacks against three vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

On August 2, Donald Trump announced the cancellation of a planned new strike on Iran, contingent on reaching a final agreement. The parties are currently continuing negotiations on the issue of control over the Strait of Hormuz.
