President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev dismissed Dauren Kosanov from the position of Minister of Defense following the deaths of military servicemembers. As reported by BAKU.WS, this was announced by the press service of the head of state.
Kosanov had held the post of Minister of Defense of Kazakhstan since the summer of last year.
As a reminder, on September 24, during military exercises in the Caspian Sea, 17 servicemembers were swept into the open sea after disembarking from a boat. Three were rescued. 14 people died.
A criminal case was opened in connection with the deaths of the military personnel. Five employees of the defense ministry were detained.
Tokayev ordered the creation of a commission for a comprehensive inspection of the state of affairs in the country's Ministry of Defense.
