Named the most beneficial type of walking
Nordic walking with two support poles is especially beneficial for health: it engages up to 90% of the body's muscles, increases energy expenditure by 20%, and positively affects the cardiovascular system.
As reported by BAKU.WS, this was explained by British therapist Giuseppe Aragona. The expert's words are quoted by Huff Post.
"Regular walking engages approximately 50% of muscles. During Nordic walking, the shoulder girdle, arms, back, and abdominal muscles are additionally engaged. Such training improves physical fitness and health more effectively than the traditional ten thousand steps per day," Aragona noted.
The specialist added that Nordic walking helps strengthen joints, improve posture, gait, and coordination of movements. This type of physical activity is also suitable for those recovering from injuries or who prefer outdoor training without additional preparation or equipment. Also, with regular walking, the heart "learns" to work in an economical mode, pulse rate decreases, and the endurance of the myocardium (heart muscle) increases.
"For most adults, about 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per week is recommended. Nordic walking is a great way to achieve this goal," the doctor emphasized.
