Russia claimed capture of Kupyansk
Russian troops have taken control of the city of Kupiansk in the Kharkiv region of Ukraine.
As BAKU.WS reports with reference to RBC, the head of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Valery Gerasimov, reported this to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to him, the units of the "West" group continue to "destroy the formations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine surrounded on the left bank of the Oskol River." Gerasimov also stated that Russian military has occupied more than 80% of the territory of Volchansk.
At the same time, the commander of the "West" group of forces, Sergei Kuzovlev, noted in his report to Putin that the Russian Armed Forces had taken control of Yampol, Petropavlovka, and Maslikovka, and are moving toward Krasny Liman.
Note that the Ukrainian side has not yet confirmed this information.
Kupiansk is located 124 km from Kharkiv and 60 km from the border with Russia. It is the center of the district of the same name. The settlement plays a key role as a transportation hub: several important railway lines (Kupiansk-Uzlovaya and Kupiansk-Sortirovochny stations) and highways T-2109 and R-07 intersect here.
Supply routes for the entire Ukrainian Armed Forces group on the eastern bank of the Oskol pass through Kupiansk, making the city strategically significant for the Ukrainian command in controlling the eastern part of the region.
