Smartphone owner didn't update device and didn't survive
In Australia, a Sydney resident was unable to call emergency services due to problems with his Samsung smartphone and died.
As reported by BAKU.WS, this was announced by The Guardian newspaper.
The incident occurred on November 13. The man urgently needed medical assistance, but he could not call emergency services. He was found later, but could not be saved. The reason was that the victim's smartphone did not support calls to the emergency number.
TPG, the operator whose services the man used, explained that many Samsung smartphones that were not updated in a timely manner may not support calls to number 000 - Australia's emergency services line. When dialing this number, the devices switch to 3G mode, but in the region, the 3G network is disabled, which is why calls stopped going through.
For its part, Samsung in a statement to Android Authority emphasized the importance of timely software updates. "This is critically important for maintaining high standards of security, reliability and performance," the corporation noted.
