Mexican mayor who promoted fight against drug cartels killed
The mayor of the Mexican city of Uruapan, Carlos Manso, was killed in an armed attack. Two people have been detained on charges of the attack, and one attacker was killed.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to El País, this was announced by the governor of the state of Michoacan, Alfredo Ramírez Bedoya.
The attack took place in the city square the previous evening during the height of the Day of the Dead celebrations. The 40-year-old Manso had delivered a ceremonial speech on the occasion of the Festival of Candles, which is considered one of the most important holidays in Uruapan. Shortly after, at least five shots were fired. The official died in the hospital from his injuries.
